I grew up in a home where both parents were saved and active in the church. I attended AWANA clubs as a youth and had the opportunity to learn many Bible verses. Even though I did these things, I disliked church and reading the Bible and only went to youth group as a teenager to see my friends. I had no excuse for not trusting Christ as my Savior.
My wife, Missy, and I were married in 1993 and I told her family I was a “Christian.” By the world’s standard I was telling the truth (and fooling myself). I thought I was a good person, but I had no interest in spiritual things. It was not until 2001 when I attended a production called “Heaven’s Gates, Hell’s Flames” that things began to change. Missy “dragged” me to this presentation because I had NO desire to go. The Lord used this presentation, and I realized my sinful condition and the need for a Savior. I trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection as payment for my sins that evening (March of 2001).
Shortly after I trusted Christ, my father-in-law sent me a copy of “Things That Differ” by C.R. Stam. This book cleared up many questions I had about the Scriptures. This book, along with classes at Berean Bible Institute, taught me about “rightly dividing” the Word of God. With this in mind, the best way to preach and teach God’s Word is to apply the principles of “rightly dividing” (2 Timothy 2:15). When I use this term, I speak of understanding God’s two main programs, prophecy and mystery. This is the method I use in my teaching and preaching today.
After serving as a missionary in Kenya with Things To Come Mission, and serving as pastor for almost four years at Forest Park Bible Church in Mobile, AL, we moved to Wisconsin and are excited about the opportunity to serve the Lord at Grace Bible Church in Beloit. YOU are invited to come and worship with us Sunday mornings and take part in the other activities of our local assembly.
